Summer arrives and the Aspria Tennis Cup – Bcs Trophy returns.

The official announcement has arrived with the periodic update of the ATP calendar: Milan is in. The sixteenth edition of the ASPRIA Tennis Cup – BCS Trophy will be held in its usual location at the end of June, in the week before Wimbledon. The enchanting location of the ASPRIA Harbour Club in Via Cascina Bellaria is ready to host one of the longest-running ATP Challengers on the circuit: it was 2006 when it welcomed the first edition of a tournament that over the years has seen top-level champions on stage in facilities worthy of a major circuit tournament. Few thought that the event would come to this day, instead the commitment of the club and the organisers has made it possible to write a history made of great matches and extraordinary personalities. In the last two editions, in particular, two baby phenomena with a sure future have shone: Lorenzo Musetti in 2019 and Holger Rune in 2021. Respectively class of 2002 and 2003, in Milan they surrendered in the semifinals against the future winners, but it was the beginning of a climb that has made them among the most prominent players on the circuit. The sixteenth edition starts from here and will take place from 19 to 26 June, with the now consolidated format for Challenger tournaments: qualifying with 24 players on 19-20 June, main draw (with 32 players) starting on Monday 20. Not forgetting the doubles tournament, which last year saw the success of the Czech pair Hrdlicka-Lehecka: a few months later, the latter had an extraordinary growth that brought him among the ATP top-100 in singles. As if to say that the doubles is also worth following closely.

ITALIANS IN THE HUNT FOR FIVE

Milan restarts from the success of an Italian player: last June, the BCS Trophy was lifted by Gian Marco Moroni from Rome, author of an impeccable tournament and able to beat Federico Coria, the eve’s favourite, in the final. As mentioned, he had won a great match in the semifinals against star player Holger Rune. Moroni’s was the fourth Italian title after those of Alessio Di Mauro (2009), Filippo Volandri (2013) and Marco Cecchinato (2016). The 2021 edition also marked the longed-for return to normality after the many Covid-related sufferings, which also affected the tennis world. In 2020, the circuit froze from March to August, also forcing the ASPRIA Tennis Cup to skip an edition. The forced stop did not stop the energy of the organisers, starting with tournament director Massimo Lacarbonara and the staff of Makers, whose experience in organising events is now internationally recognised. The tournament is being played under the aegis of the Lombardy Region, CONI and the Italian Tennis Federation. The sixteenth edition is exactly one month away, but the engines are already warming up: as per ATP regulations, the entry list will be published three weeks in advance and the names of the players who will do battle a stone’s throw from the San Siro will be known. Without forgetting that the organisers have four invitations to embellish the field of participation. The ASPRIA Tennis Cup is ready to impress again in 2022.
