In the afternoon of Monday 3 July, the main scoreboard started: the first Italian successes came thanks to two Over 30s. For now, therefore, the “old men” win the remote match against the younger ones. In particular came the success of Alessandro Giannessi (born in 1990) against Francesco Maestrelli (2002). After two evenly distributed sets, the La Spezia took off against a slightly too nervous Maestrelli. OK debut also for Federico Gaio, who collected a very good success against Maximilian Neuchrist. The Austrian is ahead of him in the standings and is having the best period of his career at 32, but he has sinned by concentrating, making too many mistakes. It was enough for Gaius to play a careful and orderly game to take a place in the round of 16, in which he will face the winner of Cobolli-Vrbensky. Less well the wild card Gianmarco Ferrari, who didn’t put up much resistance to the number 1 of the draw Facundo Diaz Acosta. The final 6-0 6-2 says it all. At the end of the day came the defeat of Edoardo Lavagno: a pity, because the match against Gauthier Onclin was definitely within the reach of the Piedmontese: it ended 1-6 6-3 6-4 with some regrets for the third set, in which the blue had a break point to go and serve for the match. He missed the chance, he got disunited and lost his serve in the next game, committing the tenth double fault on the break point. Great expectations for Tuesday: the first round matches will end, with eleven matches and the record presence of 14 Italians. A real blue invasion: in all the matches there will be at least one Italian in the race, as well as three derbies: the most awaited Passaro-Gigante, then Nardi-Serafini and Forti-Bonadio. The highlight promises to be the debut of Cristian Garin: the Chilean star will face Luciano Darderi in the last match against the Central, scheduled no earlier than 4 pm. A day not to be missed, with free admission. For the weekend show, starting with the quarter-finals, tickets and VIP Packs are available on the TicketOne circuit.
